New Hoa Ky AKA 5 Spices

I like Pho. I like the Anise flavored broth when it comes out so hot that it steams up my glasses. I like pulling leaves of Thai Basil and grabbing a bunch of jalapenos and dumping them into the hot beefy bath of tendon and tripe mixed in with the bed of rice noodles waiting at the bottom.

That being said. I'm also a bit sick of it. Ever since I started working at LucasArts in the city, my lunch crew eats Pho about 2 to 3 times a week. We usually go on Mondays since most of us are hungover from the night before. But on Friday's we always go to this place they call 5 Spices over on Geary. Now, the name of the restaurant is New Hoa Ky but for some reason they refer to the place as 5 Spices. It wasn't until I brought up the fact the name might not mean what they say it means. Anyways, I guess the name came from the great 5 Spice chicken that I always see the animation crew eat see but I never order.

Dave loves this place and for the most part so do I. I just don't order Pho here. I usually get a rice plate or I get this.



It's oily as shit but damn is it tasty. Too bad I feel like a greasy ashtray after eating it. Fortunately, when I get back to my desk I get into the zone and crank out my design duties for the day.

Overall the place is coo. It's not outstanding. I think we like it more for the cool service and big tables. Either way, we'll be there next Friday.

Camera is on the way

I finally did it. I bought a Canon XSI last week and it's en route. I'll finally get to mix hi rez pictures with my full restaurant reviews. Maybe I'll be able to get some free food if I go to a restaurant with my camera, looking all professional.
